Market News

Don't let the cool weather deter you. A number of vendors will continue to be at the market this Saturday, and December 17. Blue Highland Dairy and Blue Ridge Dairy, Takoma Kitchens, Atwater Breads, and Sylvan Farms, EcoFriendly Foods and Smith Meadow Farm, as well as Endless Summer Farm, Rice Fruit Farm, Gardeners Gourmet, Twin Springs Fruit Farm, and Toigo Orchard are staying on at least thru the first weeks of December. Mount Harmony will be selling thru the 17th.

EcoFriendly Foods, Landovel Farm, and the Mushrooms Lady will be back this Saturday, after taking last week off. Patterson Farms will be selling syrups on the 3rd and 10th. This Saturday will be the final weekend for D&S Farms. Hopefully I haven't overlooked your favorite vendor.

Recipe(s) of the Season

Does the Holiday Season and the coming of winter put you in a cooking mood? Are you considering giving homemade gifts using market fresh ingredients?

Follow this link to several seasonal recipes, including 4 apple preserves (2 chutney, a jam and a butter); 8 apple recipes including a cake, a crisp, a tart, cookies, muffins and bars. Plus a basic apple sauce. There are also multiple recipes for ketchup and tomato salsa. Main ingredients are still available at the Arlington Farmers Market.

The Seasonal Chef website offers a large number of recipes and food preparation ideas. http://www.seasonalchef.com/recipepage.htm

If you decide not to make your own, remember that many of the market vendors have tasty treats to give as gifts, or for your own holiday feast.
