Market News - Volunteer(s) needed to assist a blind AFM patron.

You can meet at the Metro station to take them around and describe what’s available and help shop. There is already one person who may be able to assist some weeks, but there may be weeks that an alternate volunteer would be needed. If willing to help, and you shop at the market anyway, please contact Jennifer Abel, jable@vt.edu, for more details.

Chef at the Market Series

Comming Next Week, the final of the season will be September 24, 2005 with Jeff Buben of Vidalia.

Tip of the Month

Mother Earth News in the September/October issue presents research suggesting eggs from free-range chickens may be healthier than your average egg. Tested eggs from four free-range flocks contained more vitamin E and beta carotene, and less cholesterol as compared to U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrient data for eggs from confinement production. The article cites other studies with similar results. The difference may be due to free-range chickens having a more varied diet of grass, clover, weeds and insects, and not just grain. You can read the article at http://www.MotherEarthNews.com/eggs or ask a vendor at your next trip to the Arlington Farmers Market.
