Based out of Baltimore, Ned sells his breads at farmers' markets and restaurants throughout the area. Baked goods leftover from the market are always given to a homeless shelter. His breads contain no fat, no sugar, no preservatives, and no dairy products, and most breads offered are sourdough-based. For those allergic to wheat or intolerant to gluten, Ned offers spelt bread. In addition, different types of focaccia are available weekly (the toppings change based on the season and what is available from the market that week). If you're in the mood for sweeter breads, ,each week different varieties are offered. For example, you might find zucchini bread in the summer, eggplant and zucchini focaccia in the summer, and cranberry bread in the fall. Be sure to pay a visit to the Atwater Breads stand the next time you're at the market. [At the Winter 2009 merket] |

Endless Summer Harvest is a unique local farm; we grow hydroponically (without soil; in water and nutrients) in 11,000 square feet of technologically advanced greenhouses in Purcellville, Virginia, specializing in fine tasting fresh lettuce, gourmet greens, culinary herbs, and select vegetables. Consistently producing delicious, flavorful, and superior quality produce is our farm mission. Controlling our greenhouses by computer offers several major advantages in the production of high value specialty crops like lettuce. Producing out of season is one of the primary advantages. Thus our name: Endless Summer Harvest. Others include a greater control over the nutritional requirements of the lettuce and a clean, soilless, and pesticide-free environment. Food safety is also at the forefront of thinking with today's consumers. They want and expect fresh, quality food, grown locally, that is not laden with harmful chemicals. Customers demand the quality that hydroponic farming can provide. Endless Summer Harvest will never use pesticides, ever. We are the future of farming in Virginia today, here and now.
Our goal is to grow, deliver, and serve the Arlington Farmers' Market shopper. The primary reasons people come to market are to find something different, fresher, and a bit more exotic. Customers will be treated to our finest specialty lettuces, year-round. Our hydroponic lettuce stays fresher and maintains a wonderful flavor far longer than typical cut or harvested lettuce. Because our customers are buying "living" lettuce, it has a longer shelf life and they can get more enjoyment out of their produce selection.

http://www.thelincolnstudio.com/Landovel_Farms.html LandovEl is a 50-acre, family-owned and operated farm in Fluvanna County. Our products are promoted as "the Holy GraEl." To understand this, you must merely taste. We use only raw fruits, sugar, and water. We do not use any corn syrup, guar gum, or other fillers. The taste is sensational. We grow biologically enhanced fruits, which we process into our nondairy frozen desserts called Sorbet. Some of our favorites are blackberry-lime, mango, limoncello, lemon-blueberry, and lime-raspberry. We process and package all frozen desserts in our kitchen, which is licensed and inspected by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. All desserts are sold in 4-ounce, 5-ounce or 16-ounce containers. We have a "Virginia's Finest" designation or our products. Retailers carrying our products include Joe's Market, Stony Point, and Carytown (Ukrop's stores); Stonewall Market in Richmond; Foods of All Nations and Whole Foods in Charlottesville; and Whole Foods in Tyson's Corner. Bennie Liles 2451 S. Culpepper Street Arlington, VA 22206 Bennie grew up on a farm and has lived in the Arlington area for years. In 1970, Bennie began to pursue beekeeping as a hobby. At one point, he was overseeing over 65 hives, but he has since scaled back to the 15 - 20 hives that he presently maintains. Since 1984, he has housed his bees on Potomac Vegetable Farm and on Wyatt Farm in Wheatland, Virginia. Naturally, Bennie's bees pollinate the fruits, vegetables, and flowers on these farms. Spring is one of the busiest seasons in the beekeeping industry. After surviving the winter congregated together in large groups, the bees become more active. The bees are readied for the "honey flow" season, fed (sugar water), and at times moved. In this area, Tulip Poplar and Locust Tree flowers provide the main source of nectar for the bees. A stretch of dry, warm weather while these trees are blossoming is essential for good honey production. Honey will flow the months of May and June, and will be harvested by late June. Arlington Farmers' Market patrons have been fortunate to have had Bennie participating in the market since 1984, and he also serves as assistant market manager to Farmer Francis Roland. |

Ellen Polishuk Potomac Vegetable Farms 38369 John Wolford Rd Purcellville, VA 20132 Web: www.potomacvegetablefarms.com We have been attending the Arlington Market since it began in 1980. Our farm has evolved over these many years, with a few new faces, changing crop mixes, and different parking spots. But, we have remained true to our goals of providing delicious nutritious food to you, our best customers. The produce going to Arlington is grown at our “country” farm out in Loudoun County. Ellen Polishuk manages that location. We grow bedding plants and bring bagged compost in the spring, and then every vegetable but sweet corn come summer. We also provide a wide assortment of fresh cut culinary herbs and flowers. We grow all of our crops using organic methods, though we are not certified organic. Since 2003, we have employed the word ECOGANIC to describe our methods. We use no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides to grow your food. We make and use compost, grow cover crops and green manures, and add rock powders for fertility. We use natural methods of pest and weed control, relying mostly on preventative maintenance! We attend many area farmers markets, and have two roadside stands – one in Vienna (the original PVF) and one in Purcellville. We hope to continue to serve you for another great season. |

They are a full spectrum farm growing many varieties of fruits, vegetables (Apples to Zucchini), herbs, edible flowers, cut flowers and a line of gourmet pet products. n addition to the production of organic commodities, Red Rake Farm offers visitors walking trails, picnic area, and a five-acre stocked fishing pond. Easy to find, they are just 10-miles east of King's Dominion (Exit 98) on Route 30, in King William County. Situated on 107 acres of land in the town of Mangohick, Virginia, Red Rake Farm is a certified organic farm. Proprietors Peter Perkins and Linda Wickenheiser lived in the Arlington area for many years before purchasing the farm, and they now relish the opportunity to sell at what Peter considers one of the "crown jewels" of markets in the area. The farm is comprised of a 300 tree orchard, asparagus beds, grape arbors, plots of seasonal vegetables, raspberry and blackberry patches, and young nut trees. During peak season, as many as ten people may be working to harvest the fruits and vegetables that Market patrons enjoy. For Red Rake Farm the season starts with potted herbs and beddings plants and ends in the late Fall with holiday gift items, all farm related and produced on the farm. Special requests are very welcome! Red Rake Farm attends several other farmers' markets in Northern Virginia, too. Unfortunately, they do not have email but you can reach Peter and Linda at 1-804-994-2408 anytime. Both of them look forward to seeing you at the Arlington Farmers' Market! |

Francis Roland has been selling fresh produce and flowers at the Arlington Farmers' Market since its opening. As a fifth generation farmer, Francis continues to work the original family farmland. Roland Farms, located in Friendly, Maryland within Prince Georges County, consists of about twenty acres of growing fields. In addition, four greenhouses containing stock plants as well as seedlings are operated year-round. Perhaps one of the most appealing things about farming for Francis is the variety of tasks it offers, whether it be planting seeds, transplanting plants, or gathering vegetables. Francis has always loved growing things and finds it especially rewarding when customers compliment him on produce purchased from his stand. In fact, Francis considers these compliments part of the "pay" for his efforts. In an effort to please patrons as well as to offer himself a challenge, Francis is always looking for new and improved varieties of produce to grow. Francis also serves as the Arlington Farmers' Market Manager. |

Chuck & Ann Geyer 1235 Berry Farm Lane Oak Grove, VA 22443 1-800-997-2377 Web Site: http://westmorelandberryfarm.com Located in Oak Grove, Virginia, the Farm was founded in 1983 when Chuck and Anne Geyer began managing the transformation of the riverside site into a farm for the Voorhees family. The farm, specializing in the production of berries and fruit, is a historic property dating back to 1641. In addition to attending markets throughout the area, the farm also offers a "pick your own" berries operation. They offer freshly picked farm produce as well as farm made preserves at their on site farm market. Visitors to the farm are encouraged to explore the trails of the Voorhees Nature Preserve, a large parcel of land that the Voorhees donated to The Nature Conservancy in 1995. Passing by the stand these days, it's hard not to notice the tables of wonderfully aromatic strawberries and buckets of tall asparagus spears that the farm is offering for sale. What can Market patrons expect later in the season? One of the farm's specialties is their homemade Scottish Tayberry preserves. The Scottish Tayberry originated in the 1970's from crossing an American Blackberry with a Scottish Raspberry. Named after the Tay, a river in Scotland, the tayberry is as big as a blackberry, but deep red in appearance like a raspberry. Be sure to look for these preserves in late June. Please call special requests in Monday-Friday 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. |

We have had the good fortune and pleasure of selling at the Arlington market since its first season, 1980. This year Susan and Chip will be running the market again. We will bring many varieties of tomatoes, several of cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, and summer squash, and various other items---onions, okra, lettuce, basil, beans, garlic, chard. All crops are grown without pesticides. You may be interested in evolving plans for the future of our farm, although they don’t pertain directly to what you will see of Wheatland at Arlington. During the last few years, we have taken steps to preserve our land and make it available for others to farm alongside us. Preservation has been achieved by the creation of a seven lot hamlet on two acres on one corner of the farm, surrounded by eight acres of common open space, while placing the remaining fifty acres under permanent conservation easement. The conserved acreage contains the production infrastructure of the farm---the best soils, irrigation pond, buildings, greenhouses, and deer fencing. We have begun renting that infrastructure and farming equipment to other farmers with the skill and desire to farm on their own. After three years of managing their own production at Wheatland, Ali Moussalli and Lisa Steinbrueck, both former workers of ours, have bought a farm in southern Virginia. This is one of the outcomes we hope to see from our rental arrangements, that people can gain enough skill and savings here to move to their own place. Zach Lester and Georgia O’Neal, and their manager Katherine Stewart, brought their established farming operation, Tree and Leaf Farm, here for the 2007 season. They will grow on about six acres at Wheatland in 2009, and sell at Falls Church, Mt. Pleasant, and DuPont Circle. Zach and Georgia’s son Eoin was born in 2006. New to the farm this year are Karen and John Mazza, Loudoun county neighbors and contemporaries of ours. They and two friends will begin their first year of market gardening on about an acre. We, Chip and Susan, have grown only for Arlington the past two seasons. This year we will add Takoma Park and one weekday market to our schedule, while continuing to concentrate on the conservation planning, hamlet creation, and emerging farm rental arrangements. Our farm has grown and prospered by selling exclusively at numerous producer only farmers markets in the region, Arlington being the very first. We are pleased with the initial success of this strategy for keeping our land open, productive, and available for others to farm. Contact us at:
