Welcome PDF Print E-mail

If you're ever driving by the Arlington County Courthouse (see directions) on a Saturday morning, you've probably noticed a lot of trucks with tents in front of them and people milling about the street between them. That's us, the Arlington Farmers' Market! On a typical Saturday at the market, more than 3000 visitors can be seen walking the L-shaped layout, surveying and purchasing the fresh produce from our more than 30 vendors, and getting quality information from our educational resources.

The Arlington Farmers' Market is proud to focus on several key goals:

  1. Providing the freshest and highest quality foods to our customers.
  2. Allowing customers to meet the people who grow their food.
  3. Supporting local farmers by limiting the distance (125 miles) from which a producer may travel.
  4. Educating our customers about food, environment, and community issues through booths staffed by the Virginia Cooperative Extension, Master Gardeners, and community non-profits.

The market was found through the Arlington office of the Virginia Cooperative Extension service. The Arlington County Courthouse Farmers' Market opened in 1979. Since at the time only Bethesda and D.C. hosted weekly markets, the market was established in response to county residents' requests to have a local market to patronize weekly. The market, now in its twenty-fifth year, continues to promote local farmers' produce and be an indispensable part of the community. If you're interested in more information about the market, be sure to visit the Virginia Room at the Arlington County Central Library.

So, come join us when we're open and see what great produce is grown local.
